Ingredients
  

  • 250g rolled oats
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 100g brown sugar
  • 100g golden syrup (or light treacle)
  • 100g dark chocolate (or milk chocolate, depending on preference)
  • A pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Melt the Butter and Syrup: In a saucepan, melt the butter, golden syrup, and sugar over low heat. Stir occasionally until fully melted and combined.
  • Combine with Oats: Remove the pan from the heat and add the rolled oats to the melted mixture. Stir thoroughly until the oats are evenly coated.
  • Prepare the Baking Tray: Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Pour the oat mixture into the tray and press it down firmly to ensure an even layer.
  • Bake the Flapjacks: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool and Melt the Chocolate: While the flapjacks are cooling, melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in the microwave in short bursts. Once the flapjacks are cooled, pour the melted chocolate over the top and spread evenly.
  • Let the Chocolate Set: Allow the chocolate to set for about 30 minutes before slicing into bars.
