  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • Mix the Dough: Combine the sourdough starter, water, flour, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Stir until a sticky dough forms. If using, add honey or olive oil at this stage.
  • Bulk Rise (Overnight): Cover the dough and let it rest at room temperature for about 8 hours or overnight. The dough should rise and show signs of fermentation.
  • Shape the Dough: After the first rise, turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Shape it into a loaf by folding the edges towards the center and rolling it tightly.
  • Second Rise: Place the dough into a loaf pan. Cover and let it rise for 3-4 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Bake the Bread: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Cool and Slice: Let the bread cool completely before slicing.

  • Storage: Store the bread in a paper bag or wrapped in a clean kitchen towel for up to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze slices and toast when needed.
